ParkPlan.org ("ParkPlan," "we," "us") is a free trip-planning tool for U.S. National Parks, monuments, and select state parks, operated by Park Plan LLC, an Ohio limited liability company. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what control you have over it. We built ParkPlan to be usable with zero account and zero data collection if that's what you prefer — everything below is optional depending on which features you use.
If you don't create an account: nothing leaves your browser. Your trip, your home location, your hiking-ability and pace preferences, and any geocoding lookups are stored only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. We never see this data, and it disappears if you clear your browser's site data.
If you create an account (optional, for saving trips across devices): we store your email address and the trip plans you explicitly save (park list, days, travelers, month, budget, and total cost) via our database provider, Supabase. Your account is protected by row-level security — only you can read or write your own saved trips, enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface.
We do not collect: your name, phone number, physical address, or any payment or card information. ParkPlan doesn't process payments — when you book a flight, hotel, or rental car through a link on the site, you complete that booking directly with the airline, Booking.com, or rental company, under their own privacy policy, not ours.
Analytics and tracking: ParkPlan uses Google Analytics to understand overall traffic and which pages are useful (page views, general location at the city/region level, device type, and how you arrived at the site). Google Analytics uses cookies and may combine this data with other information Google holds about you; see Google's Privacy Policy for details. We don't use this data to identify you individually, and we don't run any advertising or cross-site tracking pixels. ParkPlan also keeps its own simple, anonymous usage counts (which pages and parks are viewed, and whether a plan was built or saved) using a random ID stored in your browser; it contains no IP address and isn't tied to your identity unless you're signed in. Browsers that send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal aren't counted. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
To do its job, ParkPlan sends specific, narrow requests to a small number of third-party services. None of them receive your email or account information — only the specific data needed for that one request:
Some links on ParkPlan (lodging "Check availability," rental car search) are affiliate links — if you complete a booking after clicking one, ParkPlan may earn a commission from that booking provider at no extra cost to you. This is how ParkPlan stays free to use. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to that provider's own site, governed by their own privacy policy and terms.
ParkPlan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
If we make a material change to how ParkPlan collects or uses data, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
